'A bitterly disappointing day at the office saw us fall a little bit short in our first game back in almost two months.
Before the game kicked off, it’s probably the first time since taking the reins that I wasn’t too sure as to where our levels would be. We did however start off quite brightly. After mustering a couple of chances I felt that we were edging our way into the game quite well. Heriot-Watt are always a danger however, and this proved to be the case as we saw the ball cleared off the line at one end leading to giving away a really uncharacteristically soft goal at the other. To be honest, the game wasn’t exactly a classic in front of a good crowd. In my opinion there wasn’t really anything between the two. Heriot-Watt took their only real clear cut chance and we missed ours at crucial times. A tricky pitch probably spoiled a lot of the play that we have become accustomed to at Whitestone Park. And the same no doubt will be felt in the Uni camp too. I’ll need to watch the game back but as I sit here it’s really hard to fault the lads again.
We need to be a bit more ruthless in front of goal and I think if we can get that part right, we have a really good group of boys in that changing room who I have no doubts will take this club forward. They have set their own standards so it’s important we get today’s result out the system and build towards next weekend’s cup game vs Edinburgh South. Football’s great in the way it allows you to right the wrongs of the week before. One thing’s for sure, we will be working intensely on the training ground over the course of the week to correct those small margin moments.
Also, a huge thanks to the crowd that ventured down. As always the boys really appreciate the support.'
