Manager's thoughts on disappointing defeat

We went into yesterday’s match knowing we are up against a side very much in form with Thornton Hibs unbeaten in the league since early November. We’ve been very much in the game for the first 40 minutes, could’ve possibly even been a goal up in the opening exchanges then find ourselves two down at half time following two incredibly soft goals just before the break. The manner of the goals we are losing right now is disappointing as we feel they are largely from our own doing.

Second half was sort of similar where we’ve played ok in parts but again we’ve given away soft goals. The first goal in the second half was always going to be hugely important and, although we should have defended better, it came from a free kick that never should have been awarded and it leaves us with a mountain to climb.

On a positive note, the boys continued to graft and give 100% for the full 90 minutes but when we concede these goals against good sides it’s always going to make it difficult for ourselves.

There was a notable improvement in the last ten minutes and we scored a good goal with some good play. However, over the piece, we have no complaints and Thornton Hibs more than deserved victory on the day.

As you’d expect, we will train hard this week, try to iron out a few things and be ready to go again next Saturday at Kennoway Star Hearts in search of another vital three points.
