Well, the point gained against Dalkeith Thistle was a point deserved but, given what we put into the game in terms of effort, it feels more like another two points dropped. That’s five altogether in the first two home games and while we feel we could just as easily have had maximum points from these two matches, the facts are it’s been a slow start and our standards haven’t quite been there yet.
It’s a hard one to take last night as we should be 1-0 up inside five minutes but missed a guilt edged opportunity with a one-on-one with the Dalkeith ‘keeper and from there the game might’ve been different. However, without any real pressure from Dalkeith we give them a really soft goal and find ourselves behind at the break. The soft goals have been a bit of a feature since I came in at the start of the year and we just can’t seem to get rid of the bad habits and unforced errors which puts us behind a lot of the time.
Overall, we didn’t play very well again in footballing terms which is disappointing from my perspective as that’s the way we always work in training. It’s something I will need to look at as that’s large parts of the first three games we’ve been off it for some reason so we will be working hard to rectify that.
On the plus side, we were non-stop attacking in the second half and managed to get something rather than nothing from the game so the fact our energy levels are decent gives us a good base but we do need to get back to playing our way.
We get another chance to improve on Saturday with a trip to Midlothian to face Easthouses Lily and if we can get a win there then the start of the season looks a whole lot different.
