Paul's thoughts on comfortable home win

We put it to the boys during the week that they’ve performed well lately. But performing is one thing and winning is another so we’ve asked them to go and get the three points by any means necessary. And that’s exactly what they did from start to finish on Saturday. They controlled the game and the defending was excellent all the way through. Everyone delivered on the day and that’s the most pleasing aspect as we played with a real togetherness and battled for each other. Maybe if we’re being over critical, the only disappointing aspect is we could’ve been slightly more out of sight with a bit more composure.

We were at it from the first whistle and when Ross (Lamb) gets brought down for a penalty, big Grado (Grant Wilson) did his thing and gets us ahead inside ten minutes. If there were any nerves then this settled us and we were rarely troubled aside from a wicked free kick which comes back off the post. Jordan (Moffat) in goal had very little in the way of saves to make but what he did do was handle the ball well when needed and again this brought confidence to the defence. At the other end, we have our own bad luck though when Gregor (Lamb) sees a header come back off the bar. Jamie Mackay had another terrific game in the heart of defence and young Fraser Stewart thoroughly deserved his man of the match award with an energetic performance in the middle of the park.

As we head towards half time, we felt that going in 1-0 up doesn’t reflect the play but in almost the last play of the half, Ross latches onto a loose ball and sets Grado up for another good finish and we feel at that stage it was no more than we deserved.

The second half was more of the same in terms of control and possession but we’ve maybe passed up two or three chances to really make it comfortable.

All in though, it was an excellent display from the boys and a very well deserved victory. We now need to carry this type of performance from now till the end of season.
