Paul's thoughts on his first 3 points in charge

Updated: Feb 14

The boys played their part well yesterday and it was a very much deserved win after we controlled most of the 90 minutes. Despite not really hitting the heights of our recent performances we were rarely troubled until late in the game when we had to see out the game with ten men.

First half, we had some good chances to go in at the break two or three up but just wasn’t to be. United defended well and we just didn’t get that bit of luck you sometimes need to open the scoring. Truth be told, we probably just lacked that cutting edge in and around the box in the opening period.

We went in at half time you could see the boys were a bit annoyed at not being ahead.

But the chat in the changing room was just to lift the tempo a bit and just continue to do what they were doing and the goal would come and that’s exactly what they took into the second half. At 3-0 up we were comfortable and could’ve have been more if we had taken the chances we created and just that final pass didn’t quite get through there to go really put a marker down.

But at Peebles Rovers nothing goes perfect!

We felt we were cruising going into the last quarter of an hour but there was a blow for us as we’ve made our four available substitutions with 15 minutes to go and then Ross (Lamb) gets a really sore one on his ankle and we go down to 10 men. Even then though, their goal aside, we controlled the situation well and deservedly took the three points.

The boys have deserved that win after the last few weeks efforts. Now the challenge to them is continue it until the end of season and get us up the table which if they keep up the standard of the last three weeks I’m confident they can deliver.
