Well, what a dramatic end to the match that was! I thought we started the game very brightly and took the game to Oakley in the first 15-20 minutes and on another day could maybe have got ourselves in front in that initial period. However, from there the rest of the half was really scrappy and we lost our way a little and just couldn’t get the ball down and play the football we want to play. Even so, in losing a soft goal just before the break we felt it was a little harsh on us to go in behind with neither team really having created a great deal.
Into the second half and again we just couldn’t get going and any time we did get on the ball it was just coming straight back at us. Oakley then sucker punch us and get their second and the game at this stage looks pretty much out of sight.
But, for the second home game on the bounce, we’re 2-0 down and then start to play the best football of the match. The quality of passing, forward runs and just an eagerness to get on the ball more gave us that little bit of hope we’d been looking for.
With the minutes counting down though, in all honesty I’m preparing in my head what I’m saying to the players at full time. But as we head into injury time we get a goal back through Scott Inglis then go one better and Scott gets a second with the last kick of the ball. It’s testament to the character of the lads that they just don’t give up, even when it hasn’t really been our day in any shape of form.
Ultimately, the overall performance wasn’t greats but to come away with a point in that manner definitely gives us something to build on and I believe it won’t be too long until we start picking up more points as the confidence builds.
