Stuart's thoughts on disappointing defeat in Fife

Disappointed would be an understatement in how we feel after yesterday’s result. A dominant first half performance where we played some lovely football, controlled the play and limited Burntisland to very little going forward should have built the foundations to go on and win the match, particularly as Shippy were reduced to ten men just before the half time whistle. In truth, we hadn’t created too much in the way of clear cut chances ourselves but based on how we’d played and with the man advantage, the result really should have been in our hands. There wasn’t much I could say to the players at half time other than to keep playing the way they had been and the chances would come.

Well, clearly that wasn’t the case and I still can’t get my head round what happened in the second half. In fairness to the home side, they came back out with a renewed energy and we just didn’t match that. We struggled to get on the ball and, when we did, we were complacent and just didn’t find the rhythm we had in the opening 45 minutes.

Ultimately in the second half we were second best in every aspect and, rightly so, deserved nothing out the game.

We’ve a free weekend coming up and I believe it’s coming at just the right time. It allows us to get more time with the lads on the training ground, maybe get some rest time for some that have been playing through niggling injuries and to get some of our players that have been out injured back into the picture.

There’s more than enough in this group of players to see a change in results from the early part of season. Clearly results breed confidence and I’m convinced once we start picking up points we can go on a run and start climbing the table.

Thanks again for your support

Stuart
