A rare midweek fixture which saw both teams looking for the three points for vastly different reasons. For ourselves, we needed to get points on the board to draw away from relegation trouble while Bathgate were looking to continue their promotion challenge.
Our game plan worked well early doors, getting in behind isolated both fullbacks, and at times in those opening stages our front lads made things look easy. We get the break early to settle any nerves with a really well worked team goal, Jamie Mackay slotting home with composed finish.
That aside, chances at either end were at a premium but the half time team talk was just to get more of the same. We were rewarded again early in the half after Robbie Renwick troubled his opponent and drew a foul. Big moments win games and Kivi (Kyle Kivlichan) gave us the much needed second with a confident penalty to round off a really good performance from him.
This was all the lads needed, we were solid from back to front, even for a good 25 minute spell when Bathgate showed what a good side they are and pushed to get back into the game.
A huge effort and as some lads tired our subs gave those extra legs required to see out the final stages and show exactly how important the whole squad is.
All in all, a well-deserved win for the lads who once again gave everything against serious promotion contenders.
