Tam's thoughts on another huge three points on the road

We went into Saturday’s games with both sides looking for three vital points; West Calder to continue their push for promotion and ourselves to ease the pressure at the other end of the table where six teams are fighting to get away from the bottom two places.

West Calder had given us our heaviest defeat of the season in the corresponding fixture at Whitestone Park so we knew this match was always going to be tough. It was a pretty even first half with clear cut chances at a premium but we did manage to take full advantage early on after good work from Ross (Lamb) set up Robbie Renwick who grabbed the goal with an excellent finish from the edge of the box. That aside, our defence won anything that was thrown at them, we were solid and compact and looked dangerous on the break.

Going in at half time, the message to the lads was pretty much more of the same. We made some small tweaks but essentially we wanted to make sure we kept our shape and composure and I felt the lads really stuck to the task. Some vicious corners and free kicks aside, we were looking quite comfortable and it looked like it was going to take something special to break us down. Unfortunately, in the event it was nothing of the sort but a fresh air swipe in the box which caught us out and allowed West Calder back into the game.

Again though, the lads got the heads down and just continued with the plan and get their reward when Kivi (Kyle Kivlichan) sets up Robbie again for his second and gets us another fantastic win on the road. It was a nervous last ten minutes or so with West Calder obviously throwing everything at us to get back into the game but we held firm.

The lads again deserve huge praise as we once more go into this game with just eleven properly fit players with the bench consisting of boys pushing themselves through injuries. Add to this, young Fraser Stewart having to go off with what looks like a season ending knee injury and it’s been nothing short of remarkable what they’ve produced over the last few weeks.

With two games left now, it's important that everyone just keeps up that level of commitment and concentration but recent results and performances should give the lads the confidence to get us over the line over the next couple of weeks.
