We headed up to Fife to face Kennoway Star Hearts fully confident of another positive performance from the lads after a good week on the training ground. Unfortunately, we after a couple of matches with a good squad to choose from, injury and illness plagued us again leaving us with only twelve players for the trip.
Ultimately on a difficult pitch in the warm sunshine, the game failed to live up to expectations and provided little in the way of excitement. We had the ball in the net when Jamie Mackay pounced on a save by the Star ‘keeper but it was chopped off for offside. That aside, both teams had half chances, a few long range efforts here and there but neither ‘keeper was really troubled all afternoon.
In the circumstances, with 12 players again, the heat and surface were always going to be a big factor. The lads worked hard as ever though and we can’t grumble with a point and a clean sheet away from home. If we’d had that scenario before the match, I would probably have bitten your hand off.
We have a free weekend this week but have a midweek fixture against promotion chasing Bathgate Thistle to prepare for in what is going to be a very tough run in for us so we will get the heads down and apply ourselves in the same manner for these final few weeks of the season.
