Today summed up the season so far since coming in to take charge.
We’ve created very good opportunities in the first half, with no less than three 1 v 1 all going in favour of the Burntisland keeper. Big moments win games of football and whilst still creating chances at one end, we shoot ourselves in the foot going behind, albeit it was offside but without linesmen these decisions can go against you and we get caught out on this one, similar to the goals we lost up in Fife earlier in the season.
Come half time, the lads looked drained at the injustice of the scoreline but ultimately if we take those big chances we go in at the break in a comfortable position.
However, early doors in the second half we find the goal that we just couldn't find in the first half with some quality football to show what we’re really capable of. Really strong and determined play from Scott Latto and a tidy finish from big Kyle (Kivlichan). This should have settled us but for some reason it has the opposite effect and a series of missed tackles sees Shippy find the net again within a couple of minutes.
Things were clicking a bit better at the other end though and a great through ball from Ross (Lamb) and an equally good finish from Jamie Mackay gets us back level.
Then we hit the self destruct button, going down to ten men on the hour mark when wee Fraser (Stewart) sees red for a deliberate hand ball. Fortunately Jordan (Moffat) makes a superb save from the penalty but the man advantage ultimately sees Burntisland grab a couple of goals to make it an uphill task with just the ten men.
Even with the numerical disadvantage, we still push on and create big opportunities though and get back in it with Gregor (Lamb) scoring a third with a powerful finish.
As always, the lads pushed hard and gave everything but once again it’s these small margins that are going the wrong way for us at the moment.
Today has left us all baffled but, as a team collectively, we can't feel sorry for ourselves, we must pull the socks up and go again next week at Kennoway Star.
Results elsewhere just makes the challenge that little harder but also makes us more eager to right some wrongs.
