Tam's thoughts on yet another fantastic result which sees us safe

Well, we go into our last home fixture of the season with a very familiar story. A last minute call off forces Scott Inglis into the starting eleven despite suffering from a back injury. Up against runaway league winners Armadale Thistle with us desperate for points, it looked like a real uphill task.

However, with our lads’ workman like, never say die attitude, they gave as good as they got over the first 45 minutes and go in at the break scoreless. There were half chances for both teams but little to really trouble either ‘keeper.

Into the second period, it was a dubious looking foul on our right side that saw Armadale break the deadlock. An excellent delivery into the box saw them take full advantage with a well-timed run and a good header which Jordan (Moffat) got a hand to but couldn’t keep it out.

Our lads have shown they never give up though and some neat play from Robbie Renwick sets up Jamie Mackay who has been colossal in terms of how we have setup those last few weeks and he gets himself on the score sheet yet again after two bites of the cherry.

We had very sparse options on the bench but had to freshen things up a bit and it was fantastic to see Macca (Luke Maclean) get his first minutes in the league for nine months. Adam Matthews also came on and was excellent at left back for the last half hour. These changes in personnel again spurred us on, and we look like the only team pushing to win the game in the late stages. All the hard work and our solidarity was rewarded with a great ball to the back post by Harry McGill and on hand to finish it off was big Kivvy (Kyle Kivlichan).

The drama wasn’t over though and we need to see out the last period with ten men after Gregor Lamb gets red carded for a second yellow in what was only his second foul of the match. It seemed incredibly harsh but, yet again, the lads dug even deeper and held on for a fantastic three points which secure our safety in the division.

These last few weeks have been absolutely incredible. Ten points from the last four games with three victories in a row against top four sides speaks volumes for the lads. We’ve had to contend with the toughest run in we could have had, injuries, suspensions, illness, work commitments and all this against teams that have budgets and facilities we can only dream of at this stage.

I’ve always believed we would come good, and this has given us a real feel-good factor heading into our last away fixture next week  knowing these lads done it for themselves without relying on results elsewhere going our way.

To say this has been epic is an understatement; I’m so proud of every one of these lads and what they’ve achieved against the odds.
